My name is Al Anderson and I am running for the MDUSD School Board for Area 4 on November 3.
I am a lifelong resident of Contra Costa County and have lived in Area 4 for 26 years. I am the married parent of two young adults who attended both MDUSD and private schools. I have also been a full-time high school teacher (albeit over 25 years ago) as well as a high school substitute teacher in our district.
I would like to emphasize, however, that if you are satisfied with the current state of education in our school district and think everything is going wonderfully.... then you should not vote for me. I am running with the assumption that things are not going well and need to improve. With 2/3 of students in the district not performing at grade level in Math, and over half not performing at grade level in Reading, this record of sub-mediocrity is not only unfair to students and their parents but also a crisis in the making.
Will voting for me solve this crisis? Probably not. But at the very least I can be a thorn in the side to bad policies, and will do whatever I can to help steer the ship in the right direction. I am open and will be open to suggestions, but my general goals are as follows:
